Benteng Indra Patra adalah salah satu situs sejarah berharga di Aceh. Banyak cerita sejarah terjadi di benteng ini. Cerita heroik, intrik, perlawanan dan pemberontakan. Benteng yang terletak di Kecamatan Masjid Raya, jalan Krueng Raya, sekitar 19 km dari Banda Aceh, menuju Pelabuhan Kr Raya.
Benteng ini berukuran besar dengan konstruksi kokoh, berarsitektur unik, terbuat dari beton kapur. Saat ini jumlah benteng yang tersisa hanya dua, itu pun pintu bentengnya telah hancur terkena tsunami. Pada awalnya ada tiga bagian besar benteng yang tersisa. Benteng yang paling besar berukuran 70 x 70 meter dengan ketinggian 3 meter lebih. Ada sebuah ruangan yang besar dan kokoh berukuran 35 x 35 meter dan tinggi 4 meter. Rancangan bangunannya terlihat begitu istimewa dan canggih, sesuai pada masanya karena untuk mencapai bagian dalam benteng, harus dilalui dengan memanjat terlebih dahulu.
Benteng Indra Patra dibangun oleh Kerajaan Lamuri, kerajaan Hindu pertama di Aceh (Indra Patra) pada masa sebelum kedatangan Islam di Aceh, yaitu pada abad ke tujuh Masehi. Benteng ini dibangun dalam posisi yang cukup strategis karena berhadapan langsung dengan Selat Malaka, sehingga berfungsi sebagai benteng pertahanan dari serangan armada Portugis. Pada masa Sultan Iskandar Muda, dengan armada lautnya yang kuat dibawah pimpinan Laksamana Malahayati, sebagai laksamana wanita pertama di dunia, benteng ini digunakan sebagai pertahanan kerajaan Aceh Darussalam.
